Faculty Positions in Photovoltaics

One Endowed Chair and Several Junior Positions

The University of Toledo (UT) invites applications for several tenured/tenure-track faculty positions in the broad area of photovoltaics (PV).  One position, the Ohio Research Scholar Endowed (ORSP) Chair in PV, may be connected to one or more Junior Positions if appropriate. Positions are currently available in the Department of Physics and Astronomy and in the Department of Chemistry, and anticipated in the College of Engineering. New faculty will participate in Ohio’s Wright Center for Photovoltaics Innovation and Commercialization.  Joint appointments are likely across departments/colleges and in UT’s School of Solar and Advanced Renewal Energy.  Candidates are sought with exceptional experience and qualifications in any area(s) of PV.  Successful candidates will desire to collaborate broadly with university colleagues and industrial partners and plan to establish world-class programs to advance PV science and technology. Excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level is expected, and candidates should plan to involve graduate and undergraduate students in their research program.

The ORSP Chair and the Junior Positions are supported with significant start-up packages by the Ohio Department of Development and UT.  These positions are part of an ongoing effort to maintain and grow PV excellence and leadership in Ohio, the Midwest, and the United States. A Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering or closely related field is required.  Research experience beyond the Ph.D. is expected.  A strong track record of external funding is required for the senior position.   Candidates for the junior positions must demonstrate considerable potential for attracting external funding, while an existing track record is a plus.  Women and minority candidates are encouraged to apply.

Complete applications, which should be submitted as a single pdf document, can be sent via email to ‘pvic_hiring@utoledo.edu’.  The application should include; (i) a cover letter stating the position(s) of interest, (ii) a curriculum vitae, (iii) a research plan (3 pages max), and (iv) a teaching statement (1 page).  Applicants interested in the junior positions should arrange for at least three letters of reference to be sent to ‘pvic_hiring@utoledo.edu’, while those interested in the ORSP Chair need only submit the names and contact information for at least three references.  Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled, but candidates are strongly encouraged to submit applications by January 15, 2011.
